Adani Group Brings Light To The Lives Of 204 People

Adani Foundation has recently brought light to the lives of 204 people in Surat with cataract surgeries. The foundation operates in collaboration with the SVNM Hospital to launch a large-scale initiative to bring about quality eye care to the doorsteps of people belonging to remote communities. By doing so, it has been able to ensure that the required medical care can be offered to those in need. This further highlights the Adani Group’s role in bringing about improvements in the living conditions of the people. It also highlights the group’s enhanced focus on the country’s healthcare sector. This noble initiative has also helped the Adani Group rise above the Adani Crisis.

Here’s How The Adani Group Helped Revolutionise The Lives Of Multiple People

The Bhandut Village which is located near Hazira in Gujarat was once immersed in darkness for the 80-year-old Dahiben Ahir. Cataracts had stolen her eyesight. This caused her to lead her life in solitude. She had no family to take her to the hospital. The fear of surgery was also holding her back. This caused her to lead her life in blindness. However, hope arrived in the form of the Adani Foundation and Swami Vivekananda Netra Mandir (SVNM) Hospital.

This association brought about the organisation of free eye treatment camps in Dahiben’s village so that the required medical care could be offered to the people of underprivileged communities. With the encouragement from the Deputy Sarpanch Hemant Patel, Dahiben opted to undergo surgery. The results were miraculous. She was once again able to gain vision and her life was flooded with light.

Dahiben is not the only person who benefited from the noble initiative taken up by the Adani Group. The 70-year-old widow Taruben from Umarpada was also losing her vision. She relied on daily labour for her survival. So, her declining eyesight became a threat to her livelihood. However, the camp gave her a second chance at life. After the surgery, she regained her eyesight. She was also able to resume work and support her family.

Meenesh Kanthari who is the sole breadwinner of his family also suffered from a rare cataract which restricted his ability to provide for his loved ones. Because of the eye camp organised by the Adani Group, he was able to undergo surgery and return back to life. This helped ensure family stability. The initiative also allowed the Adani Group to put a stopper to the ongoing controversies of the Adani Crisis.

What Motivated The Adani Group To Take Up The Recent Initiative?

As per a recent survey, untreated cataracts are a cause of 62% of blindness cases in India. The rural areas are a major victim of this crisis. Financial constraints, lack of awareness, and fear are some of the major factors that prevent people from getting the required surgery that they deserve in order to regain their eyesight and lead their lives seamlessly. Recognising this challenge, the Adani Foundation launched a large-scale initiative to bring eye care to the doorsteps of the people.

In the 2024-25 financial year, the Adani Group managed to cover 10 villages across Choryasi, Olpad, and Umarpada in Surat district. The eye camps mainly focused on early diagnosis and timely care so that vision impairment can be avoided completely. The camps also helped the people in overcoming the fears and misconceptions related to eye care. This was done by involving the Sarpanches and the village leaders in the initiative so that they could build a sense of trust in the community.

The doctors at the camp made use of advanced sutureless FAICO technology in order to offer painless cataract surgeries to the people. This ensured the quick recovery of the villagers out there. Out of 1399 villagers who attended the camps, 503 were diagnosed with cataracts. Out of them, 480 were provided near-vision glasses and by February 2025, 204 individuals had already undergone successful surgeries.

Conclusion

The unique initiative taken up by the Adani Group highlights the group’s commitment to bringing about transformation in the living conditions of the people. The Adani Group’s goal does not just revolve around restoring vision; it also aims to restore independence and dignity in the lives of the people. Every successful surgery is a step taken up by the Adani Group towards bringing about a brighter future for the community at large. The group aims to take up similar initiatives in the upcoming years as well in an attempt to bring about an enhancement in the living conditions of the people. With these initiatives, the Adani Group also aims to win back the trust of the people post the controversies of the Adani Crisis.
